Because of Jesus Christ, our mistakes do not have to condemn or permanently define us; through repentance, they can teach us, transform us, and draw us closer to Him. As we repeatedly choose Christ and align our will with His, His grace gradually changes our hearts and helps us become the loving, righteous, and trustworthy people God intends us to be.

Doctrine and Covenants 76:22–24 declares: “And now, after the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony, last of all, which we give of him: That he lives!” I know that our Redeemer lives. Jesus Christ is not searching for reasons to reject us. He invites us to return, promises to forgive us as often as we sincerely repent, and offers the grace necessary to heal and transform us. Even when we struggle repeatedly, our mistakes do not erase our divine worth or eternal potential. Zion, the New Jerusalem, will be built in Jackson County, Missouri, as a holy city prepared for the return and reign of Jesus Christ. Yet Zion is more than a future location—it is the pure in heart, united in Christ and living the laws of the celestial kingdom. We prepare to build Zion by living our covenants now: overcoming contention, caring for the poor, consecrating our lives to God, worshipping in the temple, and gathering Israel. Before Zion can become a city where Christ dwells, we must allow Him to make us a people prepared for His presence.

Every covenant we make—from baptism and receiving the Holy Ghost to the temple endowment and eternal marriage—is part of one connected path leading us back into God’s presence. These covenants are more than ordinances to complete; they teach us to become like Jesus Christ through obedience, sacrifice, purity, consecration, service, and love. As we live them daily and continually repent, Christ’s grace changes our hearts and prepares us to receive the fulness of God.
